The Resolution Giants Are Here
The Japanese camera major Canon has lifted up the curtains and introduced the world, to their tomorrows camera today namely EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R. They have a whooping camera resolution of 50.6 megapixels each making them the leaders amongst high resolution full-frame DSLR’s.
They are described by Canon as ‘a new breed of ultra-high resolution full frame DSLR’. It is surely a dream camera for the high end photography lovers.
Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon U.S.A., Inc. was quoted saying “Canon is always looking to deliver the absolute best in image quality and push our technology to the limits,”.
But that’s not it, it still has many tricks(or we should say astounding features) up its sleeves. Aside from its gigantic megapixels it has Dual DIGIC 6 which allows it to capture 5 frames per second, which is not as fast, but the amount of data that will be crunched in these images by these processors between each shot for capturing and saving them will surely impress you head to toe.
They also have a 61-point auto-focus system, out of which 41 cross-type points are there to assure good image sharpness and accuracy through-out the frame. It will also ensure good tracking of moving subjects.
The mirror vibrational control system was re-designed from scratch and a cunning time lag feature is also present. When the shutter release button is pressed, it first locks the mirror in place, before it’s pressed again to take the shot. The time lag between mirror(motor-driven) and provides a range from as low as 1/8th of a second to 2 seconds.
A standard ISO range of 100-6400 is provided by camera sensors, though it is expandable to 50-12800. It ensures a good ‘low light’ photography experience and a ‘noise free’ image is assured by Canon itself.
The 3 in-camera crop shooting modes provided by camera’s resolution are 1:1, 1.3x, 1.6x and as an advantage of its high resolution one can get 19 megapixels images even when in 1.6x mode.
The images clicked can be seen through a 3.2 inch clear view II LCD screen which is mounted in a highly durable body, made up of magnesium alloy which has weather resistant qualities too. The body is designed in such a way that it minimizes camera shakes, after all a camera shake in 50.6 megapixel camera will be as visible as an elephant behind the bush.
The only difference between EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R is that EOS 5DS R doesn’t have a low- pass filer which edits the blur part of image and make it look sharper.
They also have USB 3.0, CF and SD card support. It can record 1080p video at 24, 25 and 30 fps (720p up to 60 fps) but the absence of 4K is a letdown in its own way.
As everything has its own price, EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R are priced (body only) at $3700 and $3900 respectively and will be expected in June at your nearest Canon showroom.
Canon has set a new bench mark for DSLR cameras with release of EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R, with this Canon has proved that it’s not limited to Power Shot range only. They are 35mm cameras with 50.6 megapixel full frame sensor and thus have become one of their own in that format and making them world’s highest resolution full frame DSLR. The other features these top guns have are DIGIC 6 processor, 61 point autofocus, a good ISO range, assurance of ‘noise free’ images and an improved body design to minimize shakes which makes them worth every penny spent on them.
